Field Notes: A Weekend in Vision with Johnnie Sommers & Friends

This past weekend, Obscurant had the privilege of collaborating with photographer Johnnie Sommers(@johnniesommer) and Wife Alexa(@alexadilavega) to capture new expressions of the Rui Kè collection. This shoot featured fresh garment variations and a continued exploration of our signature Rui Kè distressing method.

What elevated the experience was the energy and individuality of our creative team. We brought together a group of local artists and collaborators whose presence perfectly aligned with the Obscurant ethos:

  • Jerry Zeng (@jerryxzeng) — painter, content creator, and a walking canvas of personal style.

  • KillJonny (@killxjonny) — musical artist whose raw sound mirrors the rugged beauty of our textiles.

  • Javon Wallace (@javonwallace_) — international fashion model whose charisma and movement brought the garments to life.

Each contributor brought their unique lens to the shoot, helping translate our garments into narrative and energy. These weren’t just styled looks — they were lived-in expressions of artistic intent.

The Rui Kè method continues to evolve as a technique rooted in intentional imperfection — a quiet rebellion against polished mass-market fashion. Each piece photographed this weekend carried the marks of time, friction, and individuality.

We extend our gratitude to Johnnie and Alexa for capturing the vision so clearly, and to our talented collaborators who wore the pieces not just with style, but with substance.
